PhD Hoops Announces Coaching Staff and Roster for 2019 United World Games Tour
LOS ANGELES, CA – April 12, 2019 – PhD Hoops announces the coaches and players who will represent the USA in the U19 Boys Basketball division at the United World Games. The team will be on tour from June 16-25, 2019 and competing at the UWG, the largest youth tournament in Europe (15 sports, 40 countries represented, and 12,000 athletes from around the world). The tournament will take place in Klagenfurt, Austria. The group will have the opportunity to sightsee in both Austria and Italy before and after the event.
PhD Hoops U19 Boys Basketball Coaching Staff
Richie Schueler (Los Angeles, CA) is the Founder of PhD Hoops and has spent the last several years evaluating players for selection onto international basketball tours. Currently, he also works as a College Basketball Analyst on the ESPN Family of Networks. As a college basketball coach for ten years throughout all NCAA levels, he spent his last four years as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at St. Andrews University (NCAA Div. II). Additionally, he was on staff at Austin Peay State University (NCAA Div. I) in 2003 when they won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship and competed in the NCAA Tournament. Richie is a USA Basketball Gold Licensed Coach, a licensed FIBA-approved coach (International Basketball Federation), a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), an honorary member of the Hoop Historians, and is actively involved in basketball camps, clinics, showcases around the United States. He played collegiately at the University of Evansville and also on a basketball tour throughout South America after his senior season. After college, he was selected to play in the professional basketball league in Croatia. Richie earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Evansville and a Master’s Degree in Health & Human Performance with a specialization in Sports Administration from Austin Peay.
Jamie Smith (Andover, England) is the Assistant Coach and Head Performance Analyst for the Great Britain Men’s National Team and is the Director of Scouting & Analytics for the British Basketball Federation. He has participated in three EuroBasket Championships and is studying toward a PhD Degree in Basketball History. Throughout the course of his career, he’s held the unique distinction of being a coaching staff member at the college, NBA, and international team levels. At the college level, he has worked at the College of Southern Idaho, Montreat College (NC), William & Mary (VA), Hawaii, Florida (under Coach Billy Donovan), and North Carolina (under Coach Roy Williams). In the NBA, he became the first-ever British national named to an NBA coaching staff and worked under Coach Tyronn Lue during the NBA Summer League. He also spent time working for Coach Doc Rivers with the Boston Celtics. Jamie earned two Bachelor’s Degrees, Exercise & Sports Science as well as Psychology, at UNC. He earned a Master’s Degree from Florida in Applied Physiology & Kinesiology.
