PhD Hoops Announces Coaching Staff and Teams for 2022 Puerto Rico Challenge Tour
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 4, 2022 – PhD Hoops announces the coaches and players who will represent the USA in Puerto Rico from July 12-18, 2022. The group consists of both high school and college-aged men’s & women’s basketball teams who will experience both high-level basketball and cultural sightseeing throughout a week on the island.

Coach DaeShawn Beasley (Providence, RI) has been a key part of the PhD Hoops family since our inception, serving as a Skill Trainer and Website Contributor over the last several years. He currently owns and operates B.E.A.S.T. Productionz, an organization that coaches and mentors players with skills training, college recruiting guidance and video editing/production. Incredibly passionate at developing players of all levels, Beasley is involved with the Ace League Orlando professional league in Florida and has also served as Assistant Coach at high schools and colleges as well. He was a very competitive player overseas professionally and in college at Wright State University-Lake Campus, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Crime and Justice Studies.

Coach Eric Perry (Los Angeles, CA) has a wealth of coaching experience at the high school, college, international and NBA levels. He just completed his third season as Cal Poly’s Director of Basketball Operations, but has also recently served as a player development coach for Chris Johnson Hoops, training several NBA players (Dwyane Wade, Jimmy Butler, Rajon Rondo, etc.). He has coached at numerous colleges, including Head Coach at Crossroads College, as well as top HS/AAU programs. Additionally, Perry has spent a lot of time training players and coaching teams in six different Asian countries. He had a successful playing career at Crossroads College, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Sports Management.

Bob Hutchings (Bridgeton, NJ) is among the most well-known and respected coaches in the Northeast region of the country. For 50 years, he has been coaching players at the high school, college, and international levels. Currently, he is an Assistant Coach at Stockton University, where he has been a part of multiple conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. Throughout the course of his career, Coach Hutchings has served as Assistant Coach for Mike Krzyzewski (Army), was an Assistant Coach for the Saudi Arabian National Team, been the Head Coach of Cumberland County College and Head Coach at Bridgeton High School (NJ). For all of his outstanding accomplishments, he has been inducted into The New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Millville Thunderbolts Hall of Fame, the Wheeling Jesuit Athletic Hall of Fame and the All Sports Museum of Southern New Jersey Hall of Fame. He is an Associate Emeritus Member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, a certified FIBA-licensed and USA Basketball Gold-licensed coach and has been inducted into the Hoop Historians. Coach Hutchings earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Wheeling Jesuit University and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling Education from C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

Coach Kelsey Long (Milwaukee, WI) currently works with WBB programs of all NCAA levels while serving as the VP of Women’s Basketball at Sport Tours International and Executive Director of the Women’s Basketball Invitational. Throughout her young career, she’s had various coaching staff roles at several NAIA and NCAA (I, II, & III) college programs while being heavily involved in working camps at many prestigious basketball powerhouses and with community outreach programs such as Samaritan’s Feet and Play 4 Kay. Long was a standout player at Belmont Abbey College where she received numerous Conference Carolinas awards and honors as well as serving as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management with two Minors in Business Administration and Psychology.
Trip Leader, Richie Schueler (Los Angeles, CA), is the Founder of PhD Hoops and a College Basketball Analyst for both ESPN and Fox Sports. He spent 10 years as a college basketball coach at all NCAA levels, including St. Andrews University, where he served as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. He is a USA Basketball Gold Licensed Coach, a licensed FIBA-approved coach (International Basketball Federation), a longtime member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), an honorary member of the Hoop Historians and is actively involved in basketball camps, clinics, showcases around the United States. He played collegiately at the University of Evansville, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. He earned his Master’s Degree in Health & Human Performance with a specialization in Sports Administration from Austin Peay State University.
Trip Leader, Ruben Levya (Fort Stockton, TX), has spent a lifetime making an impact as a coach and teacher in his hometown community. As a former physical education teacher and head coach, he currently serves as a personal trainer in his private gym and training facility, TTA Sports. He possesses nearly ten certifications in a variety of areas pertaining to coaching or training and has coached multiple sports over the past two decades. He has established himself as a coach who demands discipline, hard work, respect, high integrity and great character. Coach Leyva graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology.
