PhD Hoops Announces Coaching Staffs and Teams for 2023 United World Games Tour
LOS ANGELES, CA – May 7, 2023 – PhD Hoops announces the teams, coaches and players who will represent the USA in the Girls (U19 & U16) and Boys (U19, U16 & U14) Basketball divisions at the United World Games. All six teams will be on tour from June 18-27, 2023 traveling to Germany, Austria & Italy while competing at the UWG, the largest youth tournament in Europe! The group will experience both high-level basketball and cultural sightseeing before and after the event.

Coach Chris Hansen, Head Coach (Caldwell, ID) has dedicated his 25+ year career to the growth of women’s basketball. He is the Owner of the ELITEisEARNED Report, Director of EIE Tournaments, Managing Editor of Prospects Nation and Director of the Check Me out Showcases. Hansen is a member of both the McDonald’s All-American Selection Committee and the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year panel. As well as coaching girls basketball for over two decades, he was the Co-Founder of ESPN HoopGurlz and spent several years as its National Director of Scouting. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington in Communications, Journalism and Interpersonal Communication.

Coach Hannah Johnson, Head Coach (Redondo Beach, CA), has been incredibly active as a girls basketball coach after a stellar playing career that extended all the way to the professional level. Currently, she is a Skills Trainer, High School Assistant Coach and Coach/Staff Member for Elite Is Earned. She kickstarted her coaching career in Malta, coaching U14 and U19 teams. As a player, Johnson was a First Team All-State high school player in California, played collegiately at the University of Washington and played professionally in Malta. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies and her Master’s Degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership with an Emphasis in Coaching.

Coach Arvin Mosley, Jr., Head Coach (Tacoma, WA) has been a key part of the PhD Hoops family for a long time, serving as a Tour Coach, Skills Trainer, Website Contributor and Coaches Roundtable Moderator over the last several years. He is currently the CEO and Founder of Triple Impact Coaching as well as the Co-Founder of the Northwest Basketball Coaches Forum. He has been the Head Coach at both the high school level (currently) as well as the college level at Tacoma Community College and The Evergreen State College. Mosley is a highly respected skills trainer for players at all levels and travels around the country conducting camps and training sessions. He played 4 years of college basketball while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Central Washington University. Additionally, he earned a Master’s Degree from Georgia Southern University in Coaching.
Coach Colin Doss (Assistant Coach) (Greenville, KY), is an aspiring college basketball coach who just completed his 3-year collegiate playing career. His coaching career began a few years ago as he worked several camps across the country and served as Director of Player Development for Moore Buckets. Currently, Doss is the Program Director & Head Coach for Kentucky Supreme. He will be on the Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff at Arkansas Tech University (Volunteer Assistant Coach) this upcoming season, under Coach Mark Downey, where he will pursue his Bachelor’s Degree.

Coach Timothy Miguez, Head Coach (Duson, LA) has risen up the coaching ranks quickly throughout his young career. He is currently the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at John Melvin University (USCAA / NAIA). Previously, he served as a head coach at the high school level for both boys and girls basketball teams. Early in his career, he spent one summer as an Intern for the Philadelphia 76ers and two years as Student Manager for the Men’s Basketball Team at Louisiana. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science from Louisiana-Lafayette and his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and Teaching from Grand Canyon University.

Coach Lee Toldson, Head Coach (Idaho Falls, ID) has spent over a dozen years as a high school basketball coach and teacher in both Wyoming and Idaho. He currently serves as Head Boys Basketball Coach at Thunder Ridge High School in Idaho. During his time in Wyoming, his team finished 3rd in the state one season, he coached the Wyoming South All-Star Team and was voted the Wyoming Physical Education (and Dance) Teacher of the Year. Toldson’s life experiences have given him opportunities to become a motivational speaker as well. As a player, he competed on scholarship at Western Wyoming Community College before graduating from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology.

Coach Barry Perry, Head Coach (Tacoma, WA), has been heavily involved in coaching youth sports for over two decades. He is currently a head coach in the 9U – 14U Boys Basketball AAU club he recently co-founded. Prior to the pandemic, he had also established his own 10U Boys Basketball team before being forced to shut down. Perry coached high-level select soccer for both boys and girls (aged 8-14 y/o) for 18 years before transitioning full time into basketball. As a player, he was successful at the high school level before breaking into the coaching ranks.

Trip Leader, Richie Schueler (Los Angeles, CA), is the Founder of PhD Hoops and a College Basketball Analyst for both ESPN and Fox Sports. He spent 10 years as a college basketball coach at all NCAA levels, including St. Andrews University, where he served as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. He is a USA Basketball Gold Licensed Coach, a licensed FIBA-approved coach (International Basketball Federation), a longtime member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), an honorary member of the Hoop Historians and is actively involved in basketball camps, clinics, showcases around the United States. He played collegiately at the University of Evansville, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. He earned his Master’s Degree in Health & Human Performance with a specialization in Sports Administration from Austin Peay State University.
Trip Leader, Ruben Levya (Fort Stockton, TX), has spent a lifetime making an impact as a coach and teacher in his hometown community. As a former physical education teacher and head coach, he currently serves as a personal trainer in his private gym and training facility, TTA Sports. He possesses nearly ten certifications in a variety of areas pertaining to coaching or training and has coached multiple sports over the past two decades. He has established himself as a coach who demands discipline, hard work, respect, high integrity and great character. Coach Leyva graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology.
