PRACTICE DRILLS
- Rodman Taps/Tips
- Goal: Get weak hand coordinated
- Tap ball off backboard with right hand, then use left hand to touch as high as you can
- 10 in a row with each hand
- Form Hooks
- Goal-post arms, set wide base in middle of post above charge arch
- Passer throws ball to one hand, post catches ball and makes pop sound by using both hands
- Get set each time and set weight to the inside foot
- 10 makes from each side
- Shaq Series
- Rip ball from coach then do a move to the post
- Builds urgency & aggressive mentality
- 1 Power Dribble Move into hook
- 1 Power Dribble to Middle, then Spin back to left
- 1 Power Dribble to Middle, then up & under
- Reach move to opposite side
- Multiple Effort Drill – Feed off Teammates Energy
- 1) Rim Run from half court, catch and layup
- 2) Grab out of net and layup again
- 3) Grab out of net, take ball out of bounds and throw pass as hard as you can to the chin of the outlet
- 4) Flash elbow into catch, pivot to finish
- 5) Guard BS for 2 dribbles, closeout on Pick ‘n Pop
- 6) Ball swings, guard another BS & switch, then guard BH and get A STOP (not a missed shot/layup)!
POST DRILLS
- Charles Barkley Drill
- 1 Player on BL and 1 at FT Line, coach at elbow
- Coach throws ball off back board
- FT line player gets board
- Once player lands, BL player defends/squares up
- No dribbles, only pivot moves to score – 3 seconds
- Short 2 on 1
*One player on block, one player on elbow, coach on opposite extended FT line, defense in middle- Defense:
- 1. No layup or dunks
- 2. Don’t commit until they do
- 3. If Offense miss, you must get ball
- 4. Goals: Get 3 stops, take charge, get points for deflection/loose ball
- Offense:
- 1. Must get layup
- 2. Only 1 pass, 2 dribbles
- Defense:
GUARD DRILLS
- Pinball Screening
- 1 cutter/1 defender the rest space out as screeners all around under the 3pt line, coach at top of 3pt line
- Cutter moves through the screens to get open at top
- Once player gets 3 catches, they play live 1 on 1 on 4th catch
- Teaches defenders to chase with no separation
- LeBron’s Combos – “If you execute every time, then you aren’t pushing yourself”
- Challenges strength and ability to make hard dribble move and finish
- Dribble move into a jump shot starting at half court, 2 lines on each side
- Get point if execute move and shot
- 1) Inside out crossover
- 2) Between/crossover
- 3) Inside out/between/behind
- 4) Between/Behind/Crossover
- 3 Minutes Shooting
- Passer, Shooter, Rebounder, scorer
- 3 Minutes to get 100, 2=2, 3=3, Record 157
- 6 Areas, 2 spots in each area, go back and fourth for 30 seconds

IRON MAN “CHARGE DRILL”
- 1 Player
- Goals
- Defend Post
- Take a Charge
- Dive for Loose ball
- Save ball from out of bounds
- 1) Ball enters to post on block, player steals ball
- 2) Ball is skipped to corner, player is on midline and sprints to take charge
- 3) O is trying to run player over who is attempting to take a charge
- 4) Player has 1 second to get up
- 5) Throw ball for player to get loose ball dive & pass to teammate from ground
- 6) Ball is thrown towards opposite sideline for player to save from going out by passing to teammate
